Multicriteria decision aiding for solar deployment

Solar potential is only one criterion among many. This work builds the methods that let a city decide which roofs to equip first, and why.

A municipality cannot equip every roof at once. It has to choose. That choice involves criteria that do not share a unit: irradiation, roof surface, self-consumption potential, heritage constraints, ownership, grid capacity, social acceptance.

This line of work applies multicriteria decision aiding to that problem — eliciting what stakeholders actually value, aggregating criteria in a way they can inspect and contest, and sorting large building stocks into ordered categories rather than producing a single opaque score. It has been applied to the Greater Geneva agglomeration and to mountainous French territories, where the match between where energy can be produced and where it is consumed is far from obvious.
