Task 63 of the International Energy Agency's Solar Heating and Cooling Programme brought together experts from ten countries to support developers, property owners, architects, urban planners and municipalities in designing solar neighbourhoods — places where long-term access to sunlight is preserved, both for energy production and for daylight in buildings and outdoor spaces.
Within the Task, I led Subtask C on solar planning tools together with Jouri Kanters, which surveyed the tools practitioners actually use, identified where their workflows break down, and set out what the next generation of tools needs to do. I was also a co-leader of Subtask D. The Task produced a set of public reports, a review of interactive solar cadaster platforms, and a framework for engaging stakeholders and citizens in solar neighbourhood projects.
