Greater Geneva is a single functional territory split across a national border, which makes coordinated solar planning unusually difficult and unusually valuable. The G2 Solar project developed a solar cadastre covering the agglomeration's building stock — around 265,000 buildings — including façades as well as roofs.
The work spanned the whole chain: a radiative model, numerically validated against reference simulations; a large-scale multicriteria assessment of which buildings are most suitable for photovoltaic integration; and an analysis of how such a cadastre feeds into solar governance across a transborder agglomeration. The resulting datasets and methods have since supported both local authorities and a series of follow-on studies.
